The
information below has been edited to provide information for
substitute teaching applicants for the Capital Region BOCES
Substitute Registry serving BOCES and the districts of
Bethlehem, Cohoes, Duanesburg,
Green Island, Guilderland, International Charter School of
Schenectady, Menands, Mohonasen, Niskayuna, Schalmont, Schenectady, South
Colonie, Voorheesville and Watervliet. Bolded information has
been added to specify information pertinent to the Substitute
Registry Service.
Effective July 1, 2001,
Sections 305(30), 3004-b, 3004-c and 3035 of the Education Law,
as amended by Chapter 180 of the Laws of 2000, and Part 87 of
the Commissioner's Regulations, require the Commissioner of
Education to request a fingerprint-supported criminal history
background check for applicants. . . for Substitute Teaching.
Two sets of fingerprints
are required, with one set to be processed by the New York State
Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) and the other by
the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
If you are not
already in the NYS Education Department fingerprint database
there are 3 ways to fulfill this requirement:
1. You may complete the fingerprint process
online at
http://www.highered.nysed.gov/tcert/ospra/fpprocess
2. You may be printed
at your local police department on their designated days.
Request fingerprint cards and obtain mailing and payment
information at http://www.highered.nysed.gov/tcert/ospra/packets.htm
3.
You may be fingerprinted at the time of your
interview and orientation. You will be given the SED Fingerprint
Packet to fill out and fingerprints will be taken by Substitute
Coordination staff. Make sure to bring the following:

FEE HAS BEEN REDUCED TO:
*$94.25 money order payable to the
New York State
Education Department
AND
$25. money order
payable to Capital Region BOCES
*This fee is the amount
established pursuant to law by DCJS and the FBI. If this causes
you an unreasonable financial hardship, submit a letter of
request for reimbursement to the districts where you have
worked.
